What is Applied Theatre? How can it be used in schools? The mechanism of Applied theatre is not about a final product, but rather about the building of skills over a period of time that takes into consideration the life factors affecting participants. For staff we embed skills into their current practice and show the steps between theory and practice which is the stumbling block for most. Applied Theatre gives space for individual processing and development in complex areas. This is done through innovative, fun approaches where skill building is embedded rather than stated. In this way learning happens more naturally.
An Applied Theatre approach uses theatre-based techniques as tools to discover and learn, to explore issues of concern to the individual andthe school community, to identify problems and actively explore solutions, and to provoke and shape social change.
