Confessions
Some years ago I created a project entitled Confessions as a way to show how devised piece could be created through Theatre of the Oppressed exercises and an Applied Theatre
approach. Following a set structure the participants create a series of monologues that challenge all our expectations of a ‘theatre’ experience.

The first performance in 2002 was so
successful that I went on to repeat the process as a means of teaching about this style of performance.
The idea of CONFESSIONS is to create a monologue based on an event in your own life. Something uncomfortable, dramatic, awkward or difficult or just odd, that perhaps you can’t shake off.

It all starts with one sentence. The result? Confessions has seen performances every year since with professional casts, as well as in schools and universities around the world.
Performances have taken place in the UK, USA, throughout South and Central America, in Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Australia and various countries in Europe.
In 2021 the structure was used to also create a series of monologues exploring issues around Covid.
